School Event: Year 4 Trip to Blakesley Hall

14 October 2008

Yesterday we had a trip to Blakesley Hall. We went on a green double Decker bus. We first got into partners. Me and my friend sat on the top of the bus. First we dropped of 4K to Yardley old church. Then we went to Blakesley Hall.

We went to a classroom and we left our food and coats there. After that we went to the front door of Richard Small brooks house and talked about him.

We learned that he was a show off and he spoke Latin. Then we entered the great main hall where they used to dine, we all thought it was spectacular. We saw all the props that they used to dine with such as cups, plates and jugs. We all learnt that they had a little wooden plate to eat from, it also had a little circle that was used for salt.

Then our information teacher Miss Picks dressed our class mate Hamza in Richard Smallbrooks clothes. She also dressed our other classmate, Danyaal into the clothes a servant would wear. They acted a play for us which was about Richard SB.

Then we went upstairs for a little tour. After that we learned how Tudors danced and then our classmate Sabrina got dressed as Richard SB’ s wife . We found out that the main ladies wore a dress inside their velvet dress. She also wore a ruff around her kneck. Then we went into Richard SB‘s room, we saw a pan that was used for heating the bed, they would put ashes off the fire or put hot water inside of it to heat the bed. Harris lay down in the bed and he had his own privacy but in Tudor times, in one whole bed six people slept in one bed.

Then we went in the servants room and then we saw this box which was where the Tudors stored all the beer. Then we went to the kitchen and we had a little quiz about what the props were called that they used to cook. The kitchen was also used to roast different types of meat they used to eat. We also saw how they killed a mouse and how the made a trap for a mouse.

Then we went into the classroom were we left our food and coats. Then we started to have our lunch. Whilst we were having our lunch our teacher Miss Russon picked some sensible children to go to the shop nearby. I bought a teddy bear and my partner bought the same as me but hers was for her little sister as it was her birthday.
