School Event: Numeracy Project - It's Up To Me!

18 June 2008

We are eight Year 5 girls doing a project called 'It's up to me'! We were finding it difficult to be confident and independent in numeracy so we have learnt about positivity, confidence and lots more! Our favourite parts have been completing challenges to open our minds and to help us to keep trying. It was great fun! It helped us to be more independent.

This picture shows the rope game. It was a wild challenge! We had to release ourselves from our partners without the rope coming off our wrists. It was very challenging. We needed to:

  • Co-operate
  • Work as a team
  • Persevere

Adults also complete a course called Investment in Excellence where they learn the same skills as us. We went to the Martineau centre to help to teach the adults what we have learnt. I liked being a teacher! This picture shows one of us helping to make an 'I can can'. We decorated cans at school and wrote down lots of things that we can do! I can draw, colour, skip and be a kind sister and aunty.

At the Martineau centre we were given a challenge. We had to move an egg across a big room without touching it and without it breaking. We thought of the idea in the photograph all by ourselves.

We have learnt lots about changing habits and trying to do things in different ways. We have also learnt about listening to our positive voice and trying to ignore our negative voice. We have set ourselves goals and tried to believe in ourselves!
