School Event: Creative Arts Week - The Rhythm of Life
10 to 14 December 2007
On Monday 10th December, Rocky (a professional African drummer) came to our school with a group of children from Grove. The children from Grove played so well, that at first we children from Arden thought that they were professionals. We really enjoyed listening to them. Some children enjoyed it so much, that they wanted to get up and play the drums with them.
Kevin the clown, came into perform for Key Stage 1. We think they enjoyed it a lot because when they came out, they all were laughing and had big smiles on their faces. We think they thought Kevin was funny because all the kids were trying to be him.
On Tuesday Reena, a professional Bollywood Dancer, came and performed. She was so good no one talked or fidgeted for the first time. People wanted to get up and dance (we know we did). When Reena started to dance people either clapped or waved their hands in the air.
On Wednesday a man called Mr Singh came in with three girls from King Edwards Handsworth. They performed with their dhol drum. At the end Rocky joined in with them. It was a real blast followed by Mrs Chudasama and Ms Salam dancing. It was absolutely great.
On Thursday, we all had a workshop with Rocky in our classrooms. He gave us each a drum/shaker. Rocky taught Year 2 as well as Year 5. We all had absolute fun learning the different tones of a drum.
On Friday, we had our performance (Years 2 and 5). All the people who performed had someone to see their performance (eg. parents, brothers, sisters etc.) After we had performed, we could go and explore the rest of the instruments and meet our parents.
