LOCAL KIDS FOOTBALL CUP COMPETITION

Arden Primary School proved themselves yet again in sport by progressing in the 2009 Local Kids Cup Competition.

On the 23rd of April 2009 Arden’s first game of the competition was a tight game that finished 0-0. Next match Arden won 1-0. Kaleem in Year 5 was the scorer. Then the match after that we won 1-0 again. This time Mihvan who is also in Year 5 was the scorer. And the last match of the evening finished 0-0.

Then on the 30th of April 2009 Arden went back to show how good they are. Arden beat the favourites in the competition 2-1 in a thrilling match. Arden fell behind early in the match. It was disastrous, but Arden fought back. Arden had a free-kick and the skipper Safian in Year 6 stepped up to take it. And he scored!

Arden were really pumped up now! They were pushing forward for a winner. They got what they wanted. Musa who is also in Year 6 with a powerful finish. He blasted the ball into the net through the keepers legs. Arden win!

CRICKET FINALS AT MOSELEY CRICKET CLUB

Arden's Cricket Team

As you may know, Arden Primary School made it to the Asda Year 5 Kwik Cricket County Finals when they played in June 2008, however, the July final was postponed due to bad weather. It was postponed until September 2008.

The finals were at Moseley Cricket Club and Arden were doing great, just like last time. Last time Arden defeated 2 other schools. This time we had to win three matches to make it to the final.

The three teams we had to play to get to the final were Sharman's Cross Primary, Thornton Road Primary and finally Birchfield Community Primary. The rules were the two teams who are playing both start on two-hundred runs if you lose a wicket your team will lose five runs. The only way you can get someone out are: caught, bowled, run out, caught and bowled, caught behind or hit wicket. If you bowl a 'no ball' or a 'wide' you will cost your team two runs and have to bowl another ball.

Sharmans Cross 230 - Arden 241
Thornton 237 - Arden 184
Birchfield 227 - Arden 208

Unfortunately after a good start we lost our final two games. The last game was quite a close game but this result knocked us out of the competition.

Well done lads, to reach the County Final was a wonderful achievement.

CRICKET: BIG WARWICKSHIRE FINAL!

Arden's Cricket Team

On Wednesday 25 June 2008, several schools went to Harborne Cricket Club to compete in a cricket tournament, outdoors on grass. The rules are if you get out in any way except lbw you will lose five runs and if you bowl an extra, which is a no ball or a wide, you will give away two runs and have to bowl one more delivery in the over. Different teams were playing, such as Woodhouse Primary and Allston.

First Arden played Woodhouse Primary. It was a close match, with only eight overs and the teams scored over two hundred runs each.
Final Result: Woodhouse Primary=226-7 and Arden Primary=233-4
Winners=ARDEN!

That was a good result for Arden; however, the result against Alston was fantastic.
Final Result: Arden Primary=257-1 and Alston=212-6
Winners=ARDEN!

What a fantastic result.

Due to awful cricketing weather, the final has been postponed until early September. So let's all wish Arden the best of luck for then!

POSTER COMPETITION: BE CAREFUL WITH CHEWING GUM

Poster Competition Entry

Recently, one of our Year 6 girls, Ruqayyah, won joint first prize with three children from other schools. Along with several children from Arden she designed a poster to tell people why they should be careful where they throw chewing gum after chewing it. There are many reasons to think before you throw, the main one being it costs councils £150 million each year to clear up.

Ruqayyah's poster was displayed, with the other winning entries, in Centenary and Victoria Square in the city centre as part of the Birmingham Climate Change Festival in early June.

The overall winner was chosen by Dame Ellen MacArthur, the famous yachtswoman. Unfortunately, Ruqayyah was not the winner but we are still very proud of her.

We are hoping to be able to have the banner with her design on it to display in school.
